Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust (BHIT)
The Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust is committed to saving young people’s lives by promoting safe cycling, in particular, through the use of cycle helmets.
By advancing the use of cycle helmets, cycle training, cycle lights and reflective clothing, the charity aims to ensure young cyclists are well equipped to take part in this healthy and environmentally friendly form of transport.
I was commissioned by the BHIT to create a project called ‘First Start’, which highlights the importance of wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle.
This project focuses on the 4 – 7 age range.
The BHIT felt that the ethos of the Jonnie Rocket character matched perfectly with the philosophy of their project.
After initial discussions, work commenced with the production of an animated DVD, which portrays Jonnie Rocket visiting Planet Cranium – and the exciting lesson unfolds from there!
This has been complimented by a full colour graphic novel called: ‘Jonnie Rocket – The Space Lobes’, which is available on-line here.
You can also see ‘Jonnie Rocket – The Space Lobes’ animation here.
